O Dia Mundial do Doente é celebrado anualmente a 11 de Fevereiro.

A data foi instituída a 11 de Fevereiro de 1992, pelo Papa João Paulo II. Na carta de instituição do Dia Mundial do Doente, Papa João Paulo II lembrou que a data representa “um momento forte de oração, de partilha, de oferta do sofrimento pelo bem da Igreja e de apelo dirigido a todos para reconhecerem na face do irmão enfermo a Santa Face de Cristo que, sofrendo, morrendo e ressuscitando, operou a salvação da humanidade”.

A efeméride, memória litúrgica de Nossa Senhora de Lourdes (França), é celebrada todos os anos pela Igreja Católica.

O Dia Mundial do Doente é celebrado em Portugal através da celebração de missas e de ações que visem sensibilizar a sociedade civil para a necessidade de apoiar e ajudar todas as pessoas doentes.

 

Mensagem do Papa Bento XVI

Sendo um importante dia para a igreja católica, o dia mundial do doente é consagrado à reflexão e à oração.

Em 2013, na sua mensagem para o Dia Mundial do Doente, o Papa Bento XVI convidou as comunidades católicas a intensificarem o serviço da caridade, em particular junto dos doentes, evocando o exemplo de Madre Teresa de Calcutá (1910-1997).

International Day of Solidarity with Leonard Peltier ~ Feb. 9

Native American political prisoner Leonard Peltier was arrested on February 6, 1977. Supporters around the world mark this date with events, rallies and other activities in support of freedom for Peltier. On Saturday, February 9, the Leonard Peltier Defense Offense Committee (LPDOC) chapter of Albuquerque and (un)Occupy Albuquerque are hosting an event in solidarity with Leonard Peltier.

Leonard Peltier (born September 12, 1944) is a Native American activist and member of the American Indian Movement (AIM). In 1977 he was convicted and sentenced to two consecutive terms of life imprisonment for first degree murder in the shooting of two Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents during a 1975 conflict on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.

Peltier's indictment and conviction have been the subject of much controversy; Amnesty International placed his case under the "Unfair Trials" category of its Annual Report: USA 2010, citing concerns with the fairness of the proceedings.^[1]

Peltier is incarcerated at the Coleman Federal Correctional Complex, Florida. Peltier's next scheduled parole hearing will be in July 2024.^[2] Barring appeals, parole or presidential pardon, his projected release date is October 11, 2040.^[3]

Dia Internacional em Memória das Vítimas do Holocausto

A 27 de Janeiro de 1945 as tropas Soviéticas libertaram o campo de exterminação Auschwitz-Birkenau descobrindo assim o maior centro de morte Nazi na Europa. Auschwitz era um complexo de vários campos, que incluía um campo de concentração (Auschwitz I), um campo de extermínio (Birkenau) e um campo de trabalhos forçados (Monowitz), situado a cerca de 40 quilómetros de Cracóvia, numa área da Alta Silésia, anexada pela Alemanha nazi à Polónia, em 1939.

Estima-se que cerca de 1,3 milhões de pessoas foram deportadas para Auschwitz, entre 1940 e 1945, das quais 1,1 milhões de Judeus foram assassinados. Num só mês, de 15 de Maio a 15 de Junho de 1944, 300.000 Judeus Húngaros foram para aí deportados, aos quais se juntaram meio milhão de Judeus da Hungria, nas semanas seguintes.

Em Novembro de 2005 as Nações Unidas aprovaram a resolução que marcaria o dia 27 de Janeiro como o Dia Internacional em Memória das Vítimas do Holocausto.

18th International Day for preservation of the Ozone Layer

On 16 September every year, from 1995 onwards the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer is celebrated. This date was designated by the United Nations General Assembly in its resolution 49/114, to memorialize the signing of the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer. With this, The Montreal Protocol is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.

The theme for this year’s celebration was Protecting our Atmosphere for Generations to come.

In India it was celebrated at at the Stein Auditorium, India Habitat Centre, Lodhi Road, New Delhi. Jayanthi Natarajan, Minister of State for Environment & Forests Government of India was the Chief Guest.

This celebration around the world offers a chance to focus attention and action at the global, regional and national levels on the protection of the ozone layer.

The ozone layer is a layer in Earth's atmosphere which contains relatively high concentrations of ozone (O3). The ozone layer is mainly found in the lower portion of the stratosphere from approximately 20 to 30 kilometres (12 to 19 mi) above Earth. It protects the earth from harmful ultraviolet radiation. Scientist in the 1970’s discovered that the layer was thinning as a result of the release of CFC’s which resulted in the development of ozone hole.

In 1985 national around the world signed an agreement and developed a framework for cooperative activities to protect the ozone layer in Vienna which is known by Vienna convention for the protection of ozone layer.

International day of solidarity with Maria Alyokhina

On January 16, 2013, the court will decide whether Maria will be released because she is a single mother of a small child. The court will take place in the female prison IK-28 in Berezniki (Perm Kray).

january 14 international day of indignant

January 14th will take place an international day of indignant. This day will mark 2 big events:

The middle-week of an international Agora made in Rome, to arrive of the second international walking of indignant <http://www.scoop.it/t/march-to-athens>, left on November 9th, 2011 of Nice at the end of the last G20 summit.

One of symbol of Rome is the colosseum, the mythical place where were put in test the slaves of the people. The governments set up by the representative vote are the slaves of the people, because they are [supposed to be] in the service of the people. They failed for a long time in the mission which was given to them.

This day will also mark the birthday of the end of Ben Ali’s reign, first dictator fallen in this international movement of revolution which we are living.

It is in this lineage that is thrown a great trial against all the murderers, the thieves and corrupted of this world which we denounce in the 1 %.

It’s high time to denounce clearly names, actions of those whom we accuse for months. In this symbolic date, they will be judged by international court of indignad and crossed in the guillotine!

It is the strong act which will allow to give some credibility to the movement by creating files and so visibility to the persons who do not know these files!

It is only the beginning of the process which will bring the implementation of a real democracy!
